The Building and Housing Department handles the Rental Housing Inspection Program for Barre City.

Barre City also regulates security deposit, by limiting the amount a landlord can collect from a tenant to equal to one month's rent. Barre City's Charter governs security deposit issues and the Housing Board of Review.
