This month marks the peak of the student move-out season. The Burlington Code Enforcement office has undertaken a proactive approach to reducing the amount of clutter left on greenbelts for the 2011 spring move-out. As part of this effort we need your assistance.
VAOA has been working with partners like the Code Enforcement office, UVM, Champlain College, Chittenden Solid Waste District, trash haulers and other city departments to have a more comprehensive approach to dealing with trash left at move-out. The Code Enforcement Office will be making daily patrols of specific zones in the area of your property.
We are asking you to join us and our partners in the project to take a proactive approach. Please see that your property is watched closely to avoid overflowing trash toters, or furniture items from being stored on the greenbelt. Some tips to avoid this are as follows:
- Tell the tenants that Code Enforcement is watching the property closely. Give tenants copies of the enclosed “7 Spring Move Out Tips" (attached below).
- Contact your trash hauler about additional toters being made available for the move- out period
- Contact Burlington Department of Public Works about purchasing covered toters for recycling. The City is providing covered toters at wholesale prices which are $45 for each 65 gallon toter and $76 for each 95 gallon toter. To request a toter complete an online application. Type or print clearly. Mail, fax, or bring this application to the Department of Public Works, or email nlosch@ci.burlington.vt.us.
- Have your tenants or property manager make their own daily patrol of the property. If they see a problem and deal with it before our inspectors do, it saves our time, phone calls to you and avoids the consequence of a ticket.
- Items that are left on the greenbelt for pick-up should NEVER remain overnight.
The Code Enforcement Office has informed us that a zero tolerance policy will be in effect for repeated problems, so avoid enforcement action by the Code Enforcemen department and to keep the Burlington neighborhoods clean.
