Burlington Notice Ordinance

The new Burlington City Ordinance governs the termination of tenants without a written lease, raising the rent on tenants in Burlington, and the amount of notice a tenant must give before vacating the property.

Burlington landlords must be aware of the following:

1. If you do not have a written lease, the amount of notice required for a no cause eviction notice will increase to 90 days if the tenant has lived in the unit for less than 2 years, and 120 days if the tenant has lived there for more than two years;

2. A tenant is required to give 2 rental periods of notice prior to moving out; and

3. Before raising rent, a landlord must give the tenant 90 days of written notice.
