BURLINGTON DISCUSSES RAISING FEES RELATED TO HOUSING CODE ENFORCEMENT

Listing Date: 03/30/2004 11:33 AM

Last month the Community Development and Neighborhood Revitalization Committee had a presentation from Ray O'Connor, Chief Code Enforcement Officer for Burlington. The committee members are Phil Fiermonte 658-2180 philipf@adelphia.net, Ian Carleton 951-8837 (h) 864-9891 (w) icarleton@yahoo.com, Joan Shannon 860-7489 joan@longswimwear.com

He indicated that, notwithstanding the recently approved increase of the apartment registration fee, that his department was looking for ways to raise more revenue by creating fees for various actions and services currently performed by the Minimum Housing Department and the Zoning Office. The amounts of the fees are significant. The timing of the request is not good since it is on the heels of the recent increase in the registration fee.

Ray has provided the Committee with a draft of proposed fee increases that are being discussed.
